Principles of Data Protection
Anyone processing personal information must comply with the eight principles of good information handling. These say that data must be:
- fairly and lawfully processed;
- processed for specified and lawful purposes;
- adequate, relevant and not excessive;
- accurate and up to date;
- not kept for longer than is necessary;
- processed in accordance with your rights under the Data Protection
Act;
- secure, and;
- not transferred to countries outside the European Economic Area without adequate data protection laws.
