Never provide information on-line unless you are confident you know what the website intends to use the information for. Always check that the site has a privacy policy.

When you log in to a website, you may not know which country it is based in.  Your data may not be protected by data protection laws in other countries.

Be especially careful if you are giving out information such as credit card details.
