The Information Commissioner promotes the following of good practice and the observance of the Data Protection Act by data controllers.

The Commissioner can assess whether the processing of your data has been carried out in compliance with the Data Protection Act. The Commissioner can also issue enforcement proceedings for breach of the data protection principles or, if a criminal offence has been committed, prosecute the data controller in the criminal court where the data controller may be fined for breaking the law.
